China 4- Tienanmen Square (changing of the guards/lowering of the flag

I have some more stuff from China....I have been procrastinating and I figure if I don't do it now....I never will. I have decided that I'm going to update regularly aka once a week.....please email me if I don't.

The following pics are of the changing of the guards. I read in my trusty travel book that this is a very interesting event. People flock to watch the lowering of the flag, not even just tourists. I tried to see the changing of the guards earlier in the morning....but I was not successful. As such, I camped my butt near the front of the fence and waited for the change....................and waited............and waited. Until finally an hour later, it happened. It was funny. I think I was the only white person there. People kept staring at me and pointing. When the guards came out I was grateful because there was no attention on me anymore. I guess people thought it weird that a foreigner would wait for such a long time for something that would be unimportant to me. Well anyway. The guards have to stand still and they can't make any faces or anything. This one guard was doing really well until a bug came near him. A few people were pointing. Finally the guard cracked a smile, quickly shook the smile away and was stone-faced again. I bet he would play poker pretty well...lol. The ceremony had music, the flag was lowered, the soldiers marched in time with each other...I was quite amazed with how well they marched. It must've taken years. I would assume, any man who is guarding Tienanmen Square must be high ranking....but maybe not. Anywho, here are the pics.
